When asked how the season would go, star attackman Braden Hehir stated they would be able to break the .500 bubble the program had been stuck on post-pandemic. “We should have a good shot at making the playoffs this year”. He also alluded to the team's self-coined motto: “The Most Gritty Team in Delaware”.
After a rough season resulting in longtime head coach Brad Dupont leaving the program, the upcoming season looked to be the same frustrating results. However a change in leadership might just be what the team needs. New head coach and Tower Hill Middle School history teacher Anthony Bonaddio seems to have brought a new light to the program, inspiring a rise in team chemistry and a higher work rate at practice. “Our team's chemistry is much better than years before, and we feel like at practice jell with each other," says Hehir.
The team started their season with a preseason trip to DC, in which a scrimmage versus a strong Smyrna team resulted in a hard fought loss, and provided a much needed confidence boost to the teams morale. Senior captain Tate Poff added “The team played well for our first game, despite the hard result”.
Boys Lacrosse opens their season March 31st on Degroat versus Sanford, a game they feel confident about. Last season, the Hillers lost by a crushing 5-6 defeat when they took on the Warriors at home, and the Hillers smell blood in the water this year. “We think our offense has the ability to score early and often in every game, and that certainly applies to Sanford”.
The combination of a strong upperclassmen presence on the team, new found confidence provided by head coach Anthony Boniddio, and being “the grittiest team in Delaware” seems to provide a light at the end of the tunnel for the program, and could lead to the upcoming 2026 spring season being a huge step in the right direction for lacrosse at Tower Hill.
