From swinging tennis rackets to running for press secretary, he is not only an integral part of the boys’ tennis team but also a determined leader at Tower Hill. Although already a familiar face both on and off the courts, Rikky Sanjeev is now working toward making Tower Hill a more connected community through his leadership as press secretary.

As a student, Rikky has constantly made an effort to connect our community through announcements. Even without his formal leadership role, Rikky is still able to find the initiative to keep students keenly informed of the latest tennis events, bringing athletic spirit to the school. Being the unofficial spokesperson for the boys’ tennis team, he dedicates himself to bringing the community together one announcement at a time.

Now that Rikky has a formal role as press secretary, he will go beyond just sports. Monthly summaries of SGA meetings and information on decisions that truly affect the whole student body are only a few of his contributions to start.

But his motivations don’t stop at the microphone. The Tower Hill Instagram is the next aspect of Rikky’s plan and key to forming a close-knit community. As we saw in his latest reels, he hands the spotlight to students and teachers rather than just making hollow announcements. Each post represents us as a school, letting viewers gaze into the perspectives of various students themselves.

Though he has no official leadership in the tennis team he stands out among them as an intense and energetic player. “He adds character to the team and is always willing to help out if needed,” says Coach Kitchel.

While this is only his first time taking a role in student government, it isn’t the first time he has taken his enthusiasm to a leadership role. As some may know, he is also a tennis coach outside of school. “Having my own tennis business has given me some marketing skills that carry over to my secretary position,” Rikky reflects.

Rikky’s attitude is effective yet simple: “If a student has a problem in school or they want a change, then they should do something about it.” He encourages students from all grades to be the change, to take initiative and make the school a representation of the best parts of us all.

At the beginning of the school year, one of the main complaints going around was the fact that the HUB board no longer showed the time or schedule. A small detail that could easily be missed, but Rikky was able to quickly try to rectify this.

The boys’ tennis coach Mr. Kitchel believes in Rikky. “If he applies the same focus he applies to tennis, then he’ll do a great job as press secretary.” Rikky's teammates and coach are sure that his dedication and confidence are something that Rikky will hopefully carry over from tennis to his role as press secretary.

“I want them to be more involved in decision-making that affects them,” Rikky says. “I want students to have the sense that they don’t just happen to go to this school, but every student that goes to Tower Hill shares something.”

Through tennis, Rikky demonstrates his passion and commitment to making Tower Hill as cohesive and supportive as he can. As he continues running the SGA Instagram and giving us thoughtful updates, we hope that this translates to a meaningful change throughout this year.

What started as his passion and commitment to making simple tennis announcements has grown into an ambitious vision of a stronger, more connected Tower Hill. As Rikky continues being a leader in many aspects, we look forward to seeing his voice translate to meaningful change throughout the year.
